The EAJC leadership attended the WJC Executive Committee meeting in Jerusalem

A high-ranking delegation from the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) attended the Executive Committee meeting of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) in Jerusalem. A series of meetings and working sessions took place from May 21 to 23. Jewish community leaders from around the world gathered for the first time since the devastating attack by the terrorist organization Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023, which resulted in the loss of over 1,200 lives and the abduction of 240 hostages (of whom 125, including women, children, and the elderly, remain in captivity in the Gaza Strip).

The delegation of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress at the WJC Executive Committee meeting was composed of Chairman of the EAJC Board Aaron G. Frenkel, EAJC President Dr. Mikhail Mirilashvili, and Director General of the Congress Dr. Haim Ben Yakov.

They engaged in discussions concerning critical issues facing the global Jewish community in light of the war between Israel and Hamas, including the surge of global antisemitism, counter-terrorism efforts in the Middle East, the Iranian threat to Israel, and humanitarian assistance for Israeli citizens affected by the conflict and members of the Israel Defense Forces. The WJC Executive Committee meeting concluded with a resolution reaffirming the commitment of the World Jewish Congress and its affiliated communities to the nation-state of the Jewish people with its capital in Jerusalem. The document underscores unwavering support for the existence of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state, living in peace and security, with recognized and protected borders, as well as its right to defend itself against any security threats.

Furthermore, Jewish community leaders strongly condemned the actions of Hamas terrorists, who planned and executed the most brutal and lethal assault on Jewish lives since the Holocaust on October 7, 2023. The WJC leadership expressed deep sorrow for the civilian casualties and concern over the ongoing humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, while acknowledging Israel's significant efforts to minimize civilian casualties and noting that the current situation is a consequence of the war initiated by Hamas. The WJC called upon international leaders to designate the group as a terrorist organization and to condemn Iran's role in aiding and abetting pro-Iranian terrorist organizations across the Middle East.

Additionally, the WJC leadership demanded the immediate release of the remaining 125 hostages held in the Gaza Strip.

The WJC Executive Committee resolution also condemns Iran's armed aggression against Israel on April 14, 2023, during which the Islamic regime launched over 300 combat kamikaze drones, ballistic, and cruise missiles toward the Jewish state.
