The EAJC leadership held a meeting with the President-elect of Israel, Isaac Herzog

On June 21, the President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, Dr. Mikhail Mirilashvili, the EAJC Director General, Dr. Haim Ben Yakov, and the EAJC Treasurer, Menachem Bushuev, held a meeting with the President-elect of Israel, Isaac Herzog.

During the meeting, the EAJC leadership personally congratulated Isaac Herzog on his election and discussed several key areas of joint initiative:

As the nation-state of the Jewish people, Israel has a responsibility to Jewish communities worldwide. Consequently, establishing a strong and consistent connection between Israel and the Diaspora must remain a primary objective.

In fostering stronger ties between Israel and the Diaspora, the active involvement of Jewish community and organizational leaders is essential, as their potential is currently underutilized. The EAJC, which represents leaders from over 20 Diaspora countries, is prepared to offer a platform for sustained dialogue between Israel and community leaders.

The year 2021 marks the 30th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between Israel and the USSR (October 18, 1991). On December 18, 1991, the Soviet Ambassador, Alexander Bovin, presented his credentials to the President of Israel, Chaim Herzog. Eight days later, on December 26, 1991, the Soviet Union dissolved. As the successor state to the USSR, Russia maintained diplomatic relations with Israel post-dissolution. Over the years, Israel established diplomatic ties with other post-Soviet states as well. By mutual agreement, a special event will be held to commemorate this milestone.

President-elect of Israel Isaac Herzog, who previously served as the Chairman of the Jewish Agency (Sochnut) and is deeply acquainted with the dynamics of Diaspora Jewish life, welcomed the initiatives of the EAJC leadership and expressed readiness for close cooperation between the President's Office and the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress.
