The Darkaynu Olympiad 5780 Convened 2,500 Young Scholars of Jewish Tradition

During the academic year, over 2,500 Jewish children aged 5 to 18 participated in the largest Jewish knowledge competition in the Russian language — the Darkeinu 5780 International Olympiad.

Students from Jewish schools, kindergartens, and educational programs across 52 cities in 9 countries competed for the title of Darkeinu 5780 Olympiad winner. The geographic reach of the 2019-2020 Olympiad expanded to include Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Israel, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Russia, Slovakia, and Ukraine.

"We at EAJC are sincerely pleased that the restrictions related to the spread of coronavirus did not prevent the organizers of the Olympiad from bringing together young experts in Jewish tradition from various countries," said Dr. Haim Ben-Yakov, Director General of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress.

For the seventh consecutive year, the team of the Darkeinu educational project has organized the traditional annual competition among young connoisseurs of Jewish heritage. Over the seven-year history of the project, thousands of Jewish school students in the post-Soviet space have had the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of Jewish history and tradition, as well as to make new friends.

For the second year in a row, the Darkeinu Kids Olympiad was held for children aged 5-7. Since the launch of the project, more than 12,000 children from Riga to Khabarovsk have tested their knowledge in the competition.

The Darkeinu Olympiad is one of the flagship initiatives of the Darkeinu educational curriculum, a unique project in the field of Jewish education for children of all ages, operating across the countries of the former USSR.
