We would like to extend our warmest congratulations to Guram Batiashvili on his 80th birthday.

Guram Batiashvili is a prominent leader of the Georgian Jewish community, an acclaimed writer, and a playwright. A few years ago, a four-volume collection of his selected works was published, featuring four novels, eight plays, and a selection of publicist essays. Throughout his writing, one can clearly sense both his profound love for the Georgian land and culture, and his unwavering devotion to a unique segment of the Jewish diaspora—Georgian Jewry, as well as to Jewish tradition as a whole.

Our dear friend and long-time colleague Guram Batiashvili is a recipient of numerous artistic and state awards in Georgia. Notably, he has been honored with Georgia’s highest theatrical distinction, the Kote Marjanishvili Prize, for his significant contributions to the performing arts, alongside the Medal for Outstanding Contributions to Georgian Culture, among other accolades. Throughout his career, he has remained a proud representative of a distinct group within the Jewish nation that proudly calls themselves "Georgian Jews." These awards represent not only recognition of the outstanding playwright’s artistic achievements, but also a tribute to the Jewish diaspora's contribution to the cultural life of the nation.

We have no doubt that Guram Batiashvili celebrates this milestone birthday at the peak of his creative powers and constructive energy. We cordially congratulate our friend on his birthday and wish him robust health, continued inspiration, and prosperity. May he live to be 120!
