EAJC President: The Time for Mutual Support Has Arrived

The Jewish community in the Diaspora and in Israel must unite and take decisive action in the fight against antisemitism. This statement was made by Dr. Michael Mirilashvili, President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, during his address at the Assembly of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) in Jerusalem.

According to him, "We live in an era where words are no longer sufficient. The time has come for action." "Today, the Jewish people face challenges that cannot be resolved through diplomatic formulations or slow bureaucratic processes. We must act — decisively, swiftly, and boldly," Mirilashvili stated.

The President of the EAJC also highlighted two critical objectives upon which the WJC must focus its efforts: combating antisemitism and strengthening relations between Israel and the Jewish Diaspora.

Addressing the former, Dr. Mirilashvili noted: "We possess a vital instrument: the working definition of antisemitism adopted by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance. This is not merely a declaration; it represents a clear standard. It allows us to distinguish genuine hatred from political rhetoric.

We must firmly stand upon this foundation.

Only then can we build partnerships with states and societies based on clear expectations and accountability, demanding — and securing — that the protection of Jewish communities is ensured not by words, but through concrete, immediate actions."

Regarding the relationship between Israel and the Diaspora, the President of the EAJC emphasized the need to acknowledge that "there is no future without mutual respect and unity."

"Now is not the time for division. This is a time for mutual support.

The world must see that we stand united. The Jews of Israel and the Jews of the Diaspora are not separate peoples; we share a single destiny.

When we stand together, diplomatic breakthroughs become possible. When we are divided, even victories turn into defeats.

We must remember: Today, almost every Israeli family bears the scars of the October 7 tragedy.

We survived exile, pogroms, and disasters only because we clung to one another. And the Almighty sustained us.

We are one people. And we share one destiny," the President of the EAJC concluded.

In concluding his remarks, he expressed hope for the immediate release of the 58 hostages held captive in the Gaza Strip and for Israel's victory in the war against Islamist groups.
