A presentation of the memoirs of a Chernobyl liquidator was held with the support of the EAJC

The Bat Yam branch of the All-Israel Association of Immigrants from Ukraine hosted a presentation of "The Chernobyl Alarm," a book by Alex Gottfried, a liquidator of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster and member of the All-Israel Union of Chernobyl Disaster Liquidators. The publication, timed to coincide with the upcoming 40th anniversary of the tragedy, was released with the support of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC).

The event was attended by Dr. Haim Ben Yakov, Director General of the EAJC. He emphasized the vital importance of preserving the historical memory of the disaster, which claimed numerous lives and permanently altered the destinies of hundreds of thousands. He noted that the heroism of the liquidators stands as a testament to personal courage and duty to future generations, and that their contribution to preventing an even greater catastrophe cannot be overstated.

"The Chernobyl Alarm" offers a firsthand account by liquidator Alex Gottfried, serving as a vivid chronicle of events and a testament to the daily heroism of those on the front lines of the struggle against an invisible threat. The book not only preserves the historical truth of the tragedy but also underscores the profound cost of human self-sacrifice.

For many years, the EAJC has actively supported Chernobyl liquidators residing in Israel, assisting their public organizations and initiatives in preserving the memory of the disaster. The Congress remains committed to honoring the liquidators' heroism and ensuring the transmission of this historical legacy to future generations.
