On November 25, the 16th Congress of the Association of World War II Veterans - Fighters Against Nazism was held in Tel Aviv. The event was supported by the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress.
The opening of the congress was attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Periphery Development, Negev and Galilee Oded Forer, Member of the Knesset Alex Kushnir, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the State of Israel Anatoly Viktorov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the State of Israel Evgeny Vorobyev, EAJC Director General Dr. Haim Ben Yakov, and others.
In their addresses, the guests of honor reiterated their gratitude to the veterans for their heroic deeds during the war and emphasized the significance of the activities of the Association of World War II Veterans in Israel.
The EAJC leadership presented a certificate of appreciation to Avraham Grinzaid, Chairman of the Association of World War II Veterans, in recognition of his long-standing care and support for veterans as head of the organization. Dr. Michael Mirilashvili, President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, was awarded a medal and a personalized certificate for his contribution to preserving the memory of World War II and providing assistance to veterans.
“Supporting World War II veterans is of paramount importance to me personally and to the leadership of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress. Their contribution to the victory over fascism during World War II is truly invaluable. While we may never fully comprehend the magnitude of your sacrifices and the horrors you endured, we can once again honor your heroism and do everything in our power to ensure your dignified senior years,” stated EAJC President M. Mirilashvili.
“The victories in the battles of World War II granted us a safer world, free from one of the most dangerous, anti-human, and destructive ideologies in human history. Today, new battles are unfolding in public spaces, textbooks, public statements, and across the internet—this time, for historical truth and factual accuracy. Just as 80 years ago it was vital to prevent any chance of victory for fascist forces, today we must not allow the truth to be distorted and manipulated for various interests and narratives,” pointed out EAJC Director General Dr. Haim Ben Yakov in his speech.
