Light and Strength Prevail Over Darkness: EAJC Hanukkah Greeting

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress extends its warmest congratulations on the occasion of Hanukkah — the festival of light, faith, and inner strength.

This year, we mark Hanukkah during an exceptionally dark and deeply concerning time. On the very first day of the holiday, the world was shaken by a heinous terrorist attack in Sydney, which claimed the lives of innocent people who had gathered with their families to light the Hanukkah candles. This tragedy has reverberated with profound grief in the hearts of Jews worldwide.

It is during such moments that the true meaning of Hanukkah resonates with particular force. The history of this holiday — the story of the heroic Maccabean Revolt — is one of resistance against darkness, tyranny, and attempts to eradicate the Jewish faith and identity. It is a testament to how the few prevailed over the many, and how light overcame the shadow.

Hanukkah teaches us to believe in miracles even in times of fear and uncertainty. Every candle lit serves as a reminder that the Jewish people have endured, will endure, and will continue to move forward, bearing the light of hope, dignity, and life.
