The General Assembly of the EAJC has commenced

The Annual General Assembly of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress took place online on Monday, April 28. The Assembly was attended by EAJC President Dr. Michael Mirilashvili, Chairman of the EAJC Governing Board Aaron G. Frenkel, EAJC Vice-Presidents David Iakobachvili, Alexander Bilinkis, and Moshe Shvets, EAJC Director General Dr. Haim Ben Yakov, as well as leaders of Jewish communities and member organizations of the Congress.

The Assembly reviewed and approved the report on the work of the Congress for the year 2024.

Opening remarks were delivered by EAJC President Dr. Michael Mirilashvili, Chairman of the EAJC Governing Board Aaron G. Frenkel, and EAJC Vice-President David Iakobachvili, who once again emphasized the difficult situation of the Jewish State on the eve of the 77th Independence Day.

The EAJC President expressed cautious optimism regarding the future: “Looking forward, we carry both hope and tempered optimism for the future. The time has come to move forward, to leave behind the devastation of two brutal wars, and to embark on a path of healing and renewal.”

Chairman of the EAJC Governing Board Aaron G. Frenkel thanked community leaders for supporting the diaspora, which has been particularly felt in Israel over recent years, and underscored the importance of supporting the Jewish State: “Mutual responsibility is one of the key Jewish imperatives and a guiding principle of the EAJC. For years, we have emphasized a simple yet vital idea: Israel needs a strong diaspora, and the diaspora needs a strong Israel. Through mutual support, we strengthen the Jewish nation and render it more resilient. Each side experiences ups and downs over time. When one side encounters difficulties, the other comes to its assistance. Today, it is Israel that is undergoing challenging times.”

The EAJC Director General provided a general overview of developments within the region's communities and thanked community leaders for their dedicated work: “We recognize that in recent years, amid two wars heavily impacting our region, operations have been far from simple due to a number of reasons. Consequently, during such times, your activities are all the more valuable. We witness this, appreciate it, and strive to provide support.”
