During their meeting in Jerusalem, the EAJC leadership and the President of Moldova discussed the development of bilateral relations and efforts to combat antisemitism.

The official visit of the President of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Dodon, to Israel is underway, featuring high-level meetings with the nation's leadership: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Reuven Rivlin, and Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein. The agenda focuses on enhancing bilateral cooperation across trade, economic, diplomatic, and tourism sectors. Highlighting its significance, this is the first state visit by a Moldovan head of state to Israel since 2004, marking a crucial milestone in bilateral relations.

The visit commenced yesterday with a meeting in Jerusalem between the President of Moldova and international Jewish leaders. Key deliberations centered on combating antisemitism, integrating the history of Moldovan Jewry and the Holocaust into the national school curriculum, and leveraging the Moldovan Jewish diaspora to strengthen ties with Israel. The delegation, which included the President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC), Mikhail Mirilashvili, EAJC Vice President and Chairman of the Jewish Community of Moldova, Alexander Bilinkis, and EAJC Director General, Haim Ben Yakov, addressed a comprehensive range of issues vital to Moldovan Jewry.

During the discussions, EAJC President Mikhail Mirilashvili raised the prospect of relocating the Moldovan embassy to Jerusalem. President Igor Dodon assured that the matter would receive serious consideration from the country's leadership. The EAJC leadership expressed appreciation to the Moldovan authorities for their steadfast denunciation of antisemitism and anti-Israel rhetoric, as well as their consistent support in international forums.

Concurrently, meeting participants urged President Dodon to bolster law enforcement efforts regarding the investigation of antisemitic incidents and the prosecution of perpetrators. A formal request was also made to enact legislation criminalizing Holocaust denial and the promotion of fascism. The parties agreed to advance public diplomacy initiatives, which include organizing factual study trips for Moldovan journalists, public figures, and parliamentarians to gain direct insight into Israel and the Jewish world.
