A new synagogue has opened in Chisinau with the support of the EAJC

An opening ceremony for a new synagogue took place in Chisinau, attended by the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, Zinaida Greceanii, leaders of the Jewish Community of Moldova, EAJC Vice-Presidents Alexander Bilinkis and Emmanuil Grinshpun, as well as representatives of Jewish communities from Romania, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Israel, France, the USA, and other countries.

The synagogue is situated in the preserved historical section of the new "Kedem" Jewish Community Center, constructed on the site of the historic "Lemnaria" synagogue, which had been active in Chisinau since 1835.

The ruined building of the ancient synagogue was returned to the Jewish Community of Moldova in 1990. Following reconstruction in 2006, only the facade wall and the semi-basement premises of the mikveh were preserved.

Shimshon Daniel Izakson serves as the Rabbi of the new synagogue and the Jewish Community of Moldova, having successfully gathered a young, active congregation. Notably, 85% of these congregants had never visited a synagogue before and are engaging in Jewish community life for the first time.
