The Knesset hosted a conference commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II

Dr. Haim Ben Yakov, Director General of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC), attended a solemn conference marking the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany, which took place at the Knesset building in Jerusalem. The event was organized on the initiative of MK Evgeny Sova, Deputy Speaker of the Knesset.

The conference was attended by Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana, Minister of Aliyah and Integration Ofir Sofer, Prof. Zeev Khanin, Chairman of the Academic Council of the Institute for Euro-Asian Jewish Studies, Knesset members representing both the coalition and the opposition, as well as delegates from organizations of World War II veterans, former ghetto prisoners, and survivors of the Siege of Leningrad. 

In his address, the EAJC Director General emphasized the historical continuity linking the generation of Jewish fighters who opposed fascism during World War II with the modern defenders of the State of Israel's independence.

"Today, the Jewish people continue to face the necessity of countering threats of annihilation. However, while 80 years ago they fought within the ranks of various national armies, today this response is provided by the citizens of their own sovereign state," the EAJC Director General noted.

Dr. Ben Yakov also highlighted the significant role of the EAJC in preserving historical memory and supporting survivors of the Second World War.
