St. Petersburg will host the "Yellow Stars" Holocaust Memorial Concert, supported by the EAJC

On February 5, the Dmitry Shostakovich St. Petersburg Academic Philharmonia (Mikhailovskaya Str., 2) will host the "Yellow Stars" concert, dedicated to the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The first half of the concert features Dmitry Shostakovich's Chamber Symphony, dedicated to the memory of the victims of fascism and war, and Leonid Desyatnikov's suite for symphony orchestra, "Sketches to Sunset."

The second half will present "Der Abschied" ("The Farewell") from Gustav Mahler's symphony "Das Lied von der Erde" ("The Song of the Earth").

The concert is organized by the Foundation for the Support of Music Education and the St. Petersburg Philharmonia, with the support of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress. The "Yellow Stars" project was conceived as a tribute of remembrance, transcending nationality and religious denomination.

The project is now in its fifth year. Previous participants include Ksenia Rappoport, Chulpan Khamatova, Maxim Vengerov, Polina Osetinskaya, Sergei Nakariakov, Maxim Rysanov, and Julian Milkis. The remembrance and solemnity of this tragedy, which is vital to convey to future generations, are reflected in the dramatic musical repertoire and the lighting score developed by Gleb Filshtinsky and Denis Kolosov. Valery Galendeev serves as the Artistic Director of the "Yellow Stars" project.
