Tel Aviv is set to host a seminar examining the themes of destruction within Jewish and Israeli theatre.

The Enrico Sterniger Museum of Judaism at Tel Aviv University will host a seminar dedicated to the exhibition exploring motifs of destruction in classical Jewish and contemporary Israeli theatre.

The exhibition, entitled "Discourses of Destruction: 1923 – 2023," opened with the support of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress on July 24, 2024, and was developed in collaboration with the Israeli Arts Center and the National Performing Arts Archive. The exhibition is curated by theatre scholar Dr. Olga Levitan and stage designer Dina Conson.

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress is deeply privileged to support this distinguished cultural initiative, particularly during this challenging period for the State of Israel.

At the closing ceremony, Dr. Olga Levitan and Dina Conson will present the core concepts of the project. Professor Ilit Ferber from the Department of Philosophy at Tel Aviv University will deliver a lecture on the language of lamentation, and Dr. Hana Pinnasi of the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem will examine the connection between femininity and destruction in Midrashic literature.

Students from the TAU Theatre Department will perform monologues from two plays featured in the exhibition: "Falling Out of Time," adapted and directed by Yael Kramsky based on the novel by David Grossman, and "How to Remain a Humanist After a Massacre in 17 Steps" by Maya Arad Yasur, written in response to the terrorist attacks of October 7, 2023.

The seminar will take place on December 16 at 16:00 in the Cymbalista Center Auditorium.

The exhibition itself is on display adjacent to the venue, at the Enrico Sterniger Museum of Judaica within the Cymbalista Center.
