The Global Day of Jewish Learning in the Communities of the Euro-Asian Region

The Global Day of Jewish Learning is an international initiative aimed at broadening access to Jewish education annually. This year, the central theme was "Human Dignity." Due to the pandemic, the format of the project underwent significant changes and was primarily held online.

Hillel CASE, Hillel Russia, and Project Kesher serve as the permanent organizers of the Day of Learning. A diverse range of international guests and speakers, high attendance numbers, and positive feedback from participants marked the success of the project once again this year.

This year, Project Kesher brought together over 100 women from Belarus, Germany, Israel, Russia, the United States, and Ukraine in an online platform to study ancient texts. The central theme focused on the women of the Tanakh and modern times. The session was opened by Keren Gershon, Executive Director of Project Kesher (New York, USA). She spoke on the phenomenon of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, and outlined seven key lessons to be drawn from her life.

Hillel CASE (Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan) hosted lectures, workshops, and creative meetings across multiple cities in both in-person and online formats. Students in Chisinau attended a lecture by the Rabbi of the Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova, as well as a masterclass by an actor and instructor from a prominent theater, held at the Hillel center. Hillel Odessa organized an online event featuring Asher Altshul, Rabbi of the "Nachalat Zion" Jewish Center in New York; Daniel Goldstein, founder of a pedagogical center in Jerusalem; entrepreneur and investor Stanislav Hart; and other speakers.

Hillel in Moscow hosted an intensive 8-hour learning marathon featuring a comprehensive program and key speakers, including Ksenia Svetlova, Rav Yosef Khersonsky, Andrey Borovsky, David Weinstein, among others.

"The importance of the Global Day of Jewish Learning, initiated by Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz, cannot be overstated. It is a day when Jewish communities worldwide unite in their pursuit of knowledge. Understanding the Jewish people, their history, and their religion forms the core of Jewish identity and values. For this reason, the EAJC has supported various educational initiatives for many years. By supporting the educational activities of Hillel, Project Kesher, and student organizations, we aim to contribute to the development of Jewish self-awareness, which we consider a crucial step in supporting and sustaining Jewish life in the Diaspora," stated Dr. Chaim Ben Yakov, Director General of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress.
