The EAJC has adopted four new resolutions regarding the situation in Israel and globally

The Annual General Assembly of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, convened on April 9, unanimously approved four resolutions:

• On the barbaric attack against Israel on October 7, 2023,

• On the right of the State of Israel to defend its borders and ensure long-term security,

• On the unacceptability of anti-Zionism and other forms of antisemitism,

• On the importance of interfaith dialogue.

On the barbaric attack against Israel on October 7, 2023

On the holiday of Simchat Torah, October 7, 2023, the territory of Israel was subjected to a series of unprecedented terrorist attacks by the Hamas group, accompanied by massive rocket fire targeting numerous cities across the country.

The events of October 7 represent one of the most brutal terrorist attacks in modern history, echoing the darkest chapters of Jewish history and constituting the greatest tragedy for the modern Jewish state.

The EAJC is convinced that no political objectives or ideologies can justify the brutal slaughter and attacks on civilians.

The EAJC expresses its sincere gratitude to the nations, organizations, politicians, public figures, and state officials who supported Israel during this difficult time for the Jewish people. The EAJC is likewise grateful to all those who unequivocally condemned the actions of Hamas.

The EAJC urges all states of the civilized world that have not yet done so to outlaw the terrorist organization Hamas and its supporters.

The EAJC calls upon all those concerned with the fate of the Jewish people to continue demonstrating maximum support for Israel on social media, in public statements, press releases, as well as at the governmental and parliamentary levels within their countries, on the international arena, and within civil society.

The EAJC recalls that in recent years, recognizing the impending threats and challenges, we have exerted significant efforts and supported numerous projects aimed at strengthening security in the southern regions of Israel bordering the Gaza Strip.

The EAJC demands the immediate and unconditional release of all remaining Israeli and foreign citizens held hostage.

The EAJC mourns alongside those who have lost their loved ones, extends its profound support to the families of those still held hostage, and wishes a swift recovery to all who have suffered as a result of this immense tragedy.

On the right of the State of Israel to defend its borders and ensure long-term security

Taking into account the growing international pressure on the State of Israel regarding a complete and immediate ceasefire and the suspension of military operations, in light of Resolution 2728 adopted by the UN Security Council on March 25, and the ongoing proceedings against the State of Israel at the International Court of Justice.

The EAJC condemns the false and groundless allegations brought by the South African authorities in their lawsuit against Israel at the International Court of Justice, and strongly objects to the cynical exploitation and dilution of the critical term "genocide," the definition of which in international law was established following the horrific events of the Holocaust.

The EAJC recalls that it was Hamas terrorists who initiated the war against the State of Israel through a series of extraordinarily brutal terrorist attacks on October 7, 2023.

The EAJC supports Israel's strict adherence to international law, while simultaneously emphasizing the absolute right of the Jewish state to protect its sovereign territory and citizens from attacks by the terrorist organization.

The EAJC asserts that, based on the principle of self-defense enshrined in the UN Charter, Israel has both the right and the obligation to continue its military campaign in the Gaza Strip until the following three objectives are achieved: the return of all hostages, the elimination of the military and terrorist threat posed by Hamas and any other groups, the dismantling of Hamas as a political entity in the Gaza Strip, and the establishment of long-term security for the State of Israel and its citizens.

The EAJC deeply regrets the loss of civilian lives and casualties resulting from the hostilities.

The EAJC is convinced that the primary responsibility for the devastating consequences of the war on both sides lies with the terrorist organization Hamas, its sponsors, and its accomplices.

The EAJC deems it essential to emphasize that Israel is compelled to wage a complex, asymmetric war against a brutal adversary that flagrantly violates all norms of international law by operating from civilian structures and densely populated areas of the Gaza Strip, using the civilian population as human shields and thereby deliberately causing significant civilian casualties.

The EAJC stresses that Hamas remains the principal obstacle to peace, and the war could terminate instantly should Hamas terrorists lay down their arms and release all Israeli hostages.

On the unacceptability of anti-Zionism and other forms of antisemitism

Taking into account the alarming rise of global antisemitism since October 7, and the widespread dissemination of false and misleading information regarding the Jewish national movement and the State of Israel.

The EAJC condemns all forms of intolerance based on nationality, ethnicity, or religion.

The EAJC is convinced that any attempt to justify brutal terrorist attacks under any pretext represents a complete loss of moral orientation and constitutes an extremely dangerous phenomenon that demands condemnation.

The EAJC draws a clear distinction between legitimate criticism of the State of Israel and its government’s actions, and the delegitimization of the State of Israel as such.

The EAJC emphasizes that the Jewish people, like all other nations, possess an absolute and unconditional right to self-determination and their own state. More than a century ago, after millennia of exile, the Jewish people unequivocally declared their aspiration to restore their state in the land of their ancestors, to which they are linked by the bonds of ancient history. The Jewish state was founded with the explicit support of world powers, based on universally recognized international documents that are not subject to revision. For over 120 years, leaders of the Jewish national movement and the State of Israel have consistently extended the hand of peace, presenting numerous initiatives to peacefully resolve the conflict with the local Arab population based on mutual recognition.

The EAJC views any attempts to deny the existence of the Jewish people, their historical connection to the Land of Israel, and their right to national self-determination as an unequivocal manifestation of antisemitism.

The EAJC condemns any comparisons between the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the history of the Holocaust, considering such comparisons inappropriate, distorting of reality, and insulting to the memory of the victims of the greatest genocide and unprecedented tragedy in human history.

The EAJC promotes the adoption at various levels of the working definition of antisemitism developed by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), and calls upon the state leaders of the Euro-Asian region to consider adopting this definition legislatively to prosecute physical and verbal manifestations of intolerance toward the Jewish population and the State of Israel.

On the importance of interfaith dialogue

The EAJC unequivocally declares that Israel's war against Hamas is not a war against Islam. The State of Israel was established on the ideals of respect for individual freedom and freedom of worship. Numerous Arab Muslims, as citizens of Israel, fully participate in all spheres of public life, hold high offices, combat terrorism, and serve in the Israeli Defense Forces and the Israel Police.

The EAJC opposes attempts to artificially frame the existence of the Jewish state and relations between Jews and Arabs as an irreconcilable religious conflict.

The EAJC is convinced that Islam, like other Abrahamic religions, is founded on the ideals of peace, cooperation, and respect for others.

The EAJC believes that fundamentalist groups of any ideology, built on radical hatred and religious fanaticism that justifies violence and murder, have no place in the modern world.

The EAJC stresses that Hamas, as a radical Islamist group and a proxy of the totalitarian Iranian regime, poses a serious threat to the security and stability not only of the State of Israel and the Middle East, but of the entire world.

The EAJC believes in the power of interfaith dialogue and actively works to foster connections between representatives of the world's major religions.

The EAJC supports Israel's commitment to peace and its openness to dialogue and cooperation with any forces in the region that recognize the Jewish state and its right to national self-determination.

The EAJC underlines the critical importance of the regional ties established between the State of Israel and the Arab states that oppose radical Islam and choose the path of peace, stability, and prosperity.

The EAJC calls upon all parties to maintain ongoing dialogue, employ respectful rhetoric, and preserve and further develop regional cooperation.
