The EAJC has convened its annual General Assembly

The Annual General Assembly of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress was held online on Tuesday, April 9. The Assembly was attended by EAJC President Dr. Michael Mirilashvili, Chairman of the EAJC Governing Board Aaron G. Frenkel, First Vice-President of the EAJC Borys Lozhkin, EAJC Vice-Presidents David Yakobashvili, Moshe Shvets, and Viktor Naishuller, EAJC Director General Dr. Haim Ben Yakov, as well as leaders of Jewish communities and member organizations of the Congress.

The Assembly reviewed the report on the work of the Congress for 2022-23 and approved four resolutions: On the barbaric attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, On the right of the State of Israel to defend its borders and ensure long-term security, On the impermissibility of anti-Zionism and other forms of antisemitism, On the importance of interfaith dialogue.

EAJC President Dr. Michael Mirilashvili and Chairman of the EAJC Governing Board Aaron G. Frenkel delivered welcoming speeches of support, assuring the participants that despite this extremely difficult period for the State of Israel and for Jews worldwide, our people possess the necessary strength and wisdom to overcome these challenges.

EAJC Director General Dr. Haim Ben Yakov, in his address, also emphasized the gravity of the period and briefly outlined the initiatives undertaken by the Congress leadership since the outbreak of the war on October 7:

“Regrettably, as with all our previous Assemblies, we are compelled to reiterate that we meet during highly challenging times and a truly transformative period. We first endured the pandemic, which was followed by a period of not just one, but several severe wars. For the past six months, the focus of our attention, like that of Jews worldwide, has clearly been directed toward the Jewish State, the difficult war ongoing here, and its consequences.

From the very first day of the war, the Congress and its leadership have been actively involved in providing assistance across virtually all sectors. The EAJC has been supporting key Israeli non-profit organizations in healthcare and aid to the families of the deceased, alongside numerous volunteer projects launched nationwide since the start of the war to supply those in need with provisions, hygiene products, drinking water, and other essentials.

We dedicate special attention to diplomatic efforts. Since the outbreak of hostilities, we have maintained active communications with the heads of state in our region regarding the situation in Israel.

Conveying verified and accurate information to people worldwide, including the Russian-speaking community, has also proven to be a demanding task. It is our collective duty and mission to engage in all available forums, communicate Israel's position, and counter the volumes of falsehoods, distorted facts, and manipulations directed against our country.”

As part of the Assembly, a musical and video presentation titled 'Day of Mourning and Heroism', released by the Congress to commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day, was also showcased.
