The Republic of Uzbekistan

Two distinct Jewish communities coexist in Uzbekistan: the deeply religious Bukharan Jews and the Ashkenazi community, which established itself during the Soviet era. Bukharan Jews are recognised as indigenous to Uzbekistan and speak a unique Tajik-Jewish dialect.

Presently, the country features three primary Jewish hubs: Samarkand, Bukhara, and Tashkent. Historical Jewish quarters, or mahallas, persist in Samarkand, Bukhara, and smaller cities within the Fergana Valley. Today, twelve active synagogues operate in Uzbekistan, and Bukhara home to the JFuture Jewish Sunday school.
