Currently, the majority of the Jewish population in India resides in Mumbai and its surrounding areas. The community comprises three distinct groups: the Bene Israel (Marathi Jews), the Malabar (Cochin) Jews, and the Iraqi Jews, who began settling in India in the late 18th century. India is home to 18 synagogues and prayer halls, with most located in Mumbai. In recent years, the Indian Jewish community has experienced a significant decline due to emigration.
