The Republic of Moldova

Jews first settled in ancient Dacian territories as early as the first century AD. On the eve of the joint German-Romanian invasion, the Jewish population of Bessarabia exceeded 250,000. Many of them were subsequently deported to concentration camps in Transnistria, where tens of thousands perished.

The Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova is affiliated with both the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress and the World Jewish Congress. Established in 1997, it succeeded the Republican Society for Jewish Culture (founded in 1989). The organization encompasses all Jewish communities and institutions within the Republic, including the municipal communities of Bălți, Orhei, Soroca, Bender, and Tiraspol. The JFuture Jewish Sunday School operates in Chișinău.
